Winter is a magical season, especially for outdoor enthusiasts. Snow-covered landscapes offer a unique beauty, and there’s nothing like going hiking or putting on snowshoes to explore nature under its white coat. In this article, we’ll discover the best snowshoeing trails in the Auvergne around our campsite in the Puy de Dôme, as well as some tips on how to make the most of your adventure.

The Auvergne is a wonderful region for snowshoeing. Here are the areas available to you at the foot of the Puy de Sancy, with 80 km of marked itineraries.

The Domaine de la Tour d’Auvergne/La Stèle, just 7 km from our Auvergne nature campsite in the Puy de Dôme, offers 6 routes.

The Chastreix-Sancy resort, 10 minutes from our campsite, offers 3 itineraries.

From our campsite near La Bourboule, 17 km away, you can also get to the Mont-Dore/Capucin resort, with its 4 snowshoeing itineraries.

Not to mention the Super Besse and Besse/Pertuyzat ski areas, 25 minutes away, which offer 8 itineraries between them.

Dress in layers: The key to staying warm is to dress in layers. Opt for a synthetic or wool base layer, an insulating mid-layer, and a waterproof, windproof outer layer.

Equipment required: Make sure you have snowshoes suited to your height and weight. Don’t forget trekking poles to help you keep your balance on slippery terrain.

Safety first: Check the weather conditions before setting off and inform someone of your itinerary. Take along a first-aid kit, water and energy snacks.

Respect nature: Stay on marked trails to protect local flora and fauna. Take your garbage with you and leave nature as you found it.

For those who prefer to be guided, accompanied snowshoe hikes are the ideal way to discover the local flora and fauna in complete safety.
Night snowshoeing is an unforgettable experience. Equipped with a headlamp, you can explore the landscape under a starry sky. It’s a unique way to experience the magic of winter, during your stay at our campsite near Super-Besse.

Renting: If you’re just starting out or don’t plan to go snowshoeing on a regular basis, renting is an excellent option. You’ll find a rental shop in the village, 1km from the campsite, which is open in winter.
Buying: If you’re passionate about snowshoeing and plan to go hiking frequently, investing in a quality pair of snowshoes can be a wise decision. This will ensure that your equipment is adapted to your needs.

Snowshoeing is a great way to enjoy the beauty of winter. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or a beginner, the Auvergne offers trails to suit all levels. So get ready, get properly equipped and come and join us at our low-cost campsite in the Puy de Dôme.
